Taking Risks as an Artist

Because it is so hot, we decided to take some risks in the name of artistic expression. That is, we handed our one-and-a-half year old an open marker in the house. We stayed right by his side encouraging him to keep the window markers on the window and still had to redirect numerous times. For 15 minutes of toddler entertainment and only a tiny bit of yellow on the couch, it was a moderately successful art session.

Collin is focused as he colors the windows-

Admiring his handiwork with an "ooh" and an "aah" -

You can also see evidence of a window kiss that resulted in a yellow and green marker mustache. We finally gave in to his requests and let him marker outside - a much safer though stiflingly hot location -

Bruno was ecstatic about our timing in moving the art outdoors - just when the backyard sprinklers came on - his second favorite time of day (favorite being anytime Collin is eating finger foods) -

Collin moved up to a toddler room about 6 weeks ago at his school and they do art projects everyday. My son who used to eat his crayons now loves to draw, marker, paint, chalk, model play-doh, and do other arts and crafts projects. Let the refrigerator and office decorating with 1 year old masterpieces begin!
