Saturday night at home

Friday afternoon was not my favorite. I was off work early, but when Collin woke up from his nap, he had a fever. It's always hard to know your kid is feeling crummy and there's nothing you can do but pump them with tylenol. I decided a visit to the park was in order. But first I gave him some diaper-free time (per our pediatrician's recommendation) to help with a spot of diaper rash.

I look up to Collin saying "poop." Never a good sign. And not only did he poop on the carpet in the 4 minutes his diaper was off, he stepped in it and tracked it around the room and then got it on my khaki work pants & shirt when I was trying to deal with it. So not the best start to the weekend, but we had fun at the park and he was a sweet cuddle bug when we put him down for bed Friday night.

The night was interesting too - he was burning up so we let him call the shots. Finally after a couple of rounds of rocking him to sleep, putting him in bed, and then him waking up 30 minutes later, I brought him to our bed. He did great until 5am, when he woke up in a silly if not delirious state. At least Cas and I were delirious trying to get him back down. He was naming body parts, naming his friends at school, trying to hide under the bed sheets. And then after 45+ minutes, he went from hyper and wide awake to asleep like the switch of a light, crashing until a record-setting 8:50am!

Saturday the weather was beautiful, and we had a picnic breakfast on the driveway and lunch on the football field where we flew kites. We enjoyed a calm day as a family and thanked God when Collin's fever broke in the afternoon.

Our Saturday night was puzzles with Daddy on the couch. One of Grammy's co-workers gave her 10 puzzles and Collin went through them plus all of ours, clapping each time the puzzle was complete.
Then on to bed, but first a few books. We normally sit in the rocking chair, but Collin wanted to bring Elmo, his two Cabbage Patch dolls, and Raggedy Ann with us. It got a little crowded so we moved to the bed.
Some of Collin's favorite things at 20-months are to play chase, to hide, to draw and splash in the bathtub, to play with "fighting men," to build with blocks or any stacking object, to jump, and to push trucks all over the place. I've loved watching him fill in words in songs or complete the last rhyming word throughout the books we read.
